from mum

Outfit details: Loft top, F21 belt, my mum's skirt, Mellow Yellow heels
One thing I can say about my mother is that she's always allowed me freedom to wear what I want (within reason, of course- when I demanded sky-high-heels as a 5 year old she did not choose to indulge me). She trusts my opinion on everything fashion related, and has even when it was perhaps not safe to do so! (My middle school years did not include a decent sense of style.) And, best of all, she lets me borrow/steal things from her wardrobe without getting annoyed with me. This skirt is a very old one she bought while we still lived in England at Marks and Spencer. It used to be ankle length, but I dug it out of the recesses of her closet a few months back and only just had it shortened to a more modern length. I love the colors in it, and it will be perfect with some tall boots for fall!

make it bright
Outfit details: Target t-shit, F21 skirt and belt, Mellow Yellow shoes

It's been humid and drizzly today, but even with the break from scorching sunlight, it's still sticky and hot. That's summer in the South for you! On rainy days I think the most depressing thing to do is wear neutrals or dark colors- the weather's got that palette covered, so why not bust out the super brights?
Plus this outfit gave me an occasion to wear the new shoes I bought in Paris (on sale to boot, woo!) that are the loveliest shade of royal blue.

a hint of paris
I'm still horribly jet lagged (they say it takes 1 day to get over each hour of difference), but I was feeling functional enough to meet my friend for lunch at a little sandwich shop we found nearby. I must say, I'm missing French food already! I woke up craving salads, of all things. I usually detest eating salads since they make me feel like a cow, but let me say that the French know how to make a good salad.
Thus, in my longing, I decided to wear something I'd bought in Paris- this adorable black pleated skirt. Whilst wandering around near the Latin Quarter, K and I happened upon this small little boutique with affordable vintage-style clothing. We went kind of crazy, trying on just about everything in the store, and ended up buying some wonderful things. In addition to this skirt, I bought a lace dress, which I'll hopefully get a chance to wear soon!

forget me not
Outfit details: Mimi chica top (Nordstrom Rack), long cardigan (Nordstrom Rack), Delia's capris, Steve Madden wedges, gifted silver locket, silver ring from a local boutique, belt ??
They say blue flowers are the rarest. They happen to be my favorite kind. (Can you tell that I love turquoise?)When I happened upon this top with ruched sleeves and an all-over blue floral print (reminiscent of forget-me-nots), I was quite happy! I purchased it a few months back when I first began doing my summer shopping, and it really is a great blouse to welcome in the warmth and color of summertime.
Today was another day of research work, aka long hours spent at a computer going over data. At points interesting, at others exceedingly tedious. It was also muggy and hazy and hot outside, so the cool colors in my outfit were the only cool aspects of my day. I study in Chicago, which is undoubtedly a cooler climate for the majority of the time, and I am definitely a person who prefers being too cold to too hot! That said, there's nothing like a hot summer to let you be lazy and sleepy all the time in preparation for the new school year come autumn.

lab casual

Outfit details: Bebe top (thrifted), 17/21 denim (TJMaxx), white blazer (?? from my mom), flipflops (Rainbows)
Another hot, sticky day, but I was inside at my research assistant job, so I threw on a white linen blazer over my sleeveless top. I feel like the white blazer makes me look like a lab scientist, so I'm making it a challenge this summer to figure out new ways to wear it that don't scream SCIENCE.
Any suggestions?

speckled
Outfit details: New York & Company tank, Fossil necklace, delia's belt, H&M skirt, Covington wedges
Ignoring the ick that is my hair today, I do like this outfit. I love skirts and tanktops in summer- the perfect light outfit combo in my opinion! Also, the blues and neutrals in this outfit let me wear my new bright lipstick (didn't show up too well in the picture, but oh well), appropriately called hot coral by Revlon. It's got awesome staying power and is my new fav shade.

tribal blues
I hadn't planned to do anything other than laze around in bed today, but one of my friends asked if I'd like to get lunch with her, and I am a sucker for eating out. It's a smidge humid and quite hot today/all week/summer in the south in general, so I opted for this cotton printed tank top, cotton skirt, and wedges.
Outfit Details: Mimi Chica top (from TJ Maxx), Forever 21 skirt+belt, Steve Madden wedges, turquoise earrings (a shop in Santa Fe)
And aren't the hydrangeas pretty? They're one of my favorite flowers.
