a soft throwback

Outfit details: leather jacket from Italy (Peruzzi), H&M top, Express jeans, covington wedges, Fossil bracelet

Well, after two weeks abroad and a week sick at home, I'm finally feeling just about 100% again! I'll post pictures from South America later this week.
It's finally started feeling a bit like fall here, so I decided on wearing these flare jeans with a loose t-shirt and my favorite leather jacket (to avoid feeling too shapeless!). Flare jeans always remind me of middle school (I lived in flares) and the 70s. Also decided to start wearing bracelets (I admit, I was tempted by the phrase "arm party" from The Man Repeller) and here's my new favorite from Fossil. The keyhole reminds me ever so much of Alice in Wonderland.
This is my last week of summer! Friday morn I return to Chicago, and I'm afraid my dad's awesome camera will stay here, so outfit photos, if possible once I start college, will be of considerably lower quality, alas. I'm not sure when my next update will be, hopefully not in the too distant future!

textured

Outfit details: sheer lace top from Nordstrom Rack, Modcloth belt, black skirt, Rampage espadrille wedges

I know, I know. I've worn this skirt way too much recently. It's just so perfect with just about everything in my closet! If you don't own a pleated black skirt, I suggest you invest in one. They're so comfy and stylish.

This week I'm going to start packing for my trip to Rio and Buenos Aires, so expect some packing posts soon.

nautical

Outfit details: F21 top, Kohls belt, F21 skirt, Covington wedges (Macy's)

Please excuse the lack of photos today- I've only a few minutes to post before picking up a friend and going for coffee.

Happy Friday, everyone!

a hint of paris

I'm still horribly jet lagged (they say it takes 1 day to get over each hour of difference), but I was feeling functional enough to meet my friend for lunch at a little sandwich shop we found nearby. I must say, I'm missing French food already! I woke up craving salads, of all things. I usually detest eating salads since they make me feel like a cow, but let me say that the French know how to make a good salad.

Thus, in my longing, I decided to wear something I'd bought in Paris- this adorable black pleated skirt. Whilst wandering around near the Latin Quarter, K and I happened upon this small little boutique with affordable vintage-style clothing. We went kind of crazy, trying on just about everything in the store, and ended up buying some wonderful things. In addition to this skirt, I bought a lace dress, which I'll hopefully get a chance to wear soon!

print mix

Outfit details: Express t-shirt, F21 dress, F21 belt, Steve Madden wedges, bracelet from Australia (gift)

I've wanted to try the whole floral/stripes print mixing thing for a while now, so instead of putting a cardigan over this paisley-flowery dress, I put a striped shirt under it! It's something different, and it ended up working better than I thought it would. All in all, a fun, casual outfit for Friday. (Can you believe it's another weekend already? Where does the time go?)

You may notice a tan dog in the pictures. That is my dear old puppy (yes, he may be 11 but he's still my puppy) who enjoys making sneaky appearances in photos. Try getting him to pose for his own portrait? Nearly impossible.

forget me not

Outfit details: Mimi chica top (Nordstrom Rack), long cardigan (Nordstrom Rack), Delia's capris, Steve Madden wedges, gifted silver locket, silver ring from a local boutique, belt ??

They say blue flowers are the rarest. They happen to be my favorite kind. (Can you tell that I love turquoise?)When I happened upon this top with ruched sleeves and an all-over blue floral print (reminiscent of forget-me-nots), I was quite happy! I purchased it a few months back when I first began doing my summer shopping, and it really is a great blouse to welcome in the warmth and color of summertime.

Today was another day of research work, aka long hours spent at a computer going over data. At points interesting, at others exceedingly tedious. It was also muggy and hazy and hot outside, so the cool colors in my outfit were the only cool aspects of my day. I study in Chicago, which is undoubtedly a cooler climate for the majority of the time, and I am definitely a person who prefers being too cold to too hot! That said, there's nothing like a hot summer to let you be lazy and sleepy all the time in preparation for the new school year come autumn.

bright side of the moon

Outfit details: Pink Floyd tee (Target?), F21 shorts, Steve Madden wedges

I was basically raised on Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Jethro Tull, and a surprising amount of opera, Broadway, and Enya. As a result I am a strange, confused person who has a bizarre, eclectic taste in music. That being said, while The Wall is my favorite Pink Floyd album, Dark Side of the Moon has a prettier cover. Also it's just about impossible to find a good shirt of The Wall cover.

Today was a very low key Sunday, and really all I did was go see X-Men First Class with the fam. By the way, it's a GREAT movie. So much eye candy too, haha! Go see it. The tee is a nice faded gray-green (yes, it actually does have a green tint inreallife) and since the prism artwork has some neon-esque colors, I thought it'd be fun to pair it with my new bright red shorts and turquoise wedges.

creamsicle

This skirt reminds me of an orange creamsicle with the white linen + orange stripes deal. As today was extremely hot and muggy, I reached for this flowy skirt and paired it with a simple v-neck tee.

I unfortunately didn't have time to take closeups, but the necklace I'm wearing is one that's very special to me. My grandfather gave it to me two years ago when I was in India. It's two-sided, with a dark grey silver on one side and a silver-gold mix on the other.

Outfit details: grey shirt (Target), F21 skirt, Steve Madden wedges, orange belt (from Nordstrom)

speckled

Outfit details: New York & Company tank, Fossil necklace, delia's belt, H&M skirt, Covington wedges

Ignoring the ick that is my hair today, I do like this outfit. I love skirts and tanktops in summer- the perfect light outfit combo in my opinion! Also, the blues and neutrals in this outfit let me wear my new bright lipstick (didn't show up too well in the picture, but oh well), appropriately called hot coral by Revlon. It's got awesome staying power and is my new fav shade.

before it rains

Outfit details: Express graphic tee, Zara bag, Betsey Johnson sunglasses (from Nordstrom Rack), TJ Maxx capris, Covington wedges (from Macy's a long time ago)

It feels like it's going to rain. Do you know that feeling? The air seems heavier, the breeze is warm and is reminiscent of the wind that comes off the sea, minus the salty scent. I do love summer rainstorms (thunderstorms especially, though my dog does not share that sentiment), but the air just before them is really a bit suffocating. I resigned myself to a day spent indoors with the comfort of air-conditioning. Hopefully I'll get some reading (Gabriel Garcia Marquez is sitting on my desk, waiting to be opened) or writing done.
That said, my dad called me this morning and I met him for an impromptu brunch. Having been awakened at the horribly early hour of 10 am, this was the outfit I threw on... not my most creative, but it was comfy and fitting enough for brunch at a local cafe.

tribal blues

I hadn't planned to do anything other than laze around in bed today, but one of my friends asked if I'd like to get lunch with her, and I am a sucker for eating out. It's a smidge humid and quite hot today/all week/summer in the south in general, so I opted for this cotton printed tank top, cotton skirt, and wedges.

Outfit Details: Mimi Chica top (from TJ Maxx), Forever 21 skirt+belt, Steve Madden wedges, turquoise earrings (a shop in Santa Fe)

And aren't the hydrangeas pretty? They're one of my favorite flowers.
